Effective 18 September 2026
The short version: Spelling Cue keeps everything on your device. It has no accounts, no servers of its own, no advertising and no analytics. We do not collect, store or sell personal information.
Student names, spelling lists, practice results and settings are saved only on the device the app is installed on. They are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes this data.
When you scan a spelling list, the photo is read by the text-recognition feature built into your device (Apple's Vision framework on iPhone and iPad). The photo is processed in the app's memory and is not uploaded, transmitted or kept by Spelling Cue. Camera and photo-library access are used only when you choose to scan.
Words are spoken by a voice that is built into the app and runs on your device. Audio for your words is generated and cached on the device only.
The Share feature creates a file containing a student's lists and results. It leaves your device only when you choose to send it, using the apps you pick (Messages, Mail, AirDrop and so on). Those services' own privacy policies apply to the message you send.
Spelling Cue Plus is an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple. Apple handles payment and the free trial. We receive no payment details. Whether a subscription is active is checked on your device through Apple's App Store services.
Spelling Cue is used by children under the supervision of a parent or tutor. Children never create an account, and the app collects no personal information from anyone. It contains no advertising, no third-party analytics and no links out to social media.
None. The app makes no network requests to us. If you email us for support, we use your message only to help you.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
